Design Books in Adobe InDesign like a Pro

Design Books in Adobe InDesign like a Pro

Learn book layout design in Adobe InDesign by building a full illustrated book from scratch, step by step.

This course teaches book layout design using a real InDesign project, not just isolated tips.
You watch designer Martin Perhiniak build an illustrated edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales from a blank page to a finished, print ready file.

This is a 49 lesson InDesign class built around one real project: turning Grimm's Fairy Tales into a fully designed illustrated book.

Martin Perhiniak starts with book anatomy and standard formats, then shows examples from published books before opening InDesign.
From there you set up the document, define margins with the Van De Graaf canon, and import a manuscript. He uses GREP and the Story Editor to locate and format individual poems, then works through typeface selection, body copy styling, drop caps, headings, and subheadings.
Later lessons cover illustrations and captions, Parent pages, and splitting a book into sections managed with an InDesign Book file. You also build a Table of Contents, an Index of Illustrations, footnotes and cross references, and a full Index.
The class finishes with front matter (frontispiece, title page, preface), a cover design, preflight checks, and exporting the finished book as a print ready PDF and as fixed layout or reflowable ePub.

What you will learn:
How to set up a book document and define margins using the Van De Graaf canon.
How to use GREP and the Story Editor to find and format text like poems.
How to format body copy, drop caps, headings, and subheadings for a professional look.
How to build a Table of Contents, Index, and Book file to manage a multi chapter project.
How to export your finished book as a print ready PDF and as fixed layout or reflowable ePub.

Ideal for: For anyone with some InDesign experience who wants to design and publish a real illustrated book.
